The Challenge

Trumee is a fledgling recruiting and job seeking app whose aim is to put the humanity back into the hiring process. Their platform allows users to record video clips of themselves to market to potential employers in lieu of a resume or cover letter. This has the advantage of being easier for recruiters to consume and giving a more authentic view of job candidates.
Currently the biggest hurdle for Trumee is getting users to make videos on their site. There is an inherent pressure of putting one's authentic self on the internet, especially to potential employers. This hurdle has proved too large, even for gen Z users who are accustomed to making similar phone-based content (e.g. Tiktok, Instagram Reels, and Youtube Shorts). There are many potential angles to tackle this problem, and this course and its partner infographic (see below) are one angle.

The Solution

To address this problem, one potential solution is to give users a template to script their first video. Users likely know how to set up their phone to record themselves, but don't know what to say. Having a template relieves that mental burden and streamlines the content creation workflow, while giving users a foundation to iterate on with their own creativity. To decide on a platform, I knew the delivery method would have to be mobile friendly and easy to consume quickly. One of the best course creation tools to accomplish this is 7taps. 7taps is a microlearning platform built specifically for mobile devices. It plays a lot like a 'tiktok' of e-Learning courses. There is still the question of how 7taps gets embedded into the app; most likely it will be a link that opens in the mobile web browser. In addition, the features the free 7taps plan, limit the ability to customize the course's theme and  overall functionality.

The other asset is an infographic for the same topic. This inforgraphic was made in Canva and can be more easily embedded into the app. Unlike the 7taps course, the content is not as engaging, but it matches the Trumee brand style and can be consumed quicker.

In the future, I intend to create other assets to address the problem like a tutorial on how to migrate videos built in Instagram or Tiktok into Trumee, as well as give examples of Trumee videos that don't involve a talking head in front of a camera.

The Results

Currently, this solution has not been rolled out to Trumee users, so real metrics have not yet been collected. If delivered effectively to users, I believe these assets will eliminate one of the barriers blocking users from making Trumee videos.
